“syempre! Di ba last year mo pa gustong magkaroon ng ganyan?” sagot ng ama.
At least sigurado tayong di bakla ang anak natin.” Pangising biro ng ama.
“Sabagay, may punto kayo.

this story apparently shows the objective concept that every short story portrays. The setting, the characters, the plot and most especially the theme are distinctively presented. On the other hand, there are values that manipulate the whole story making it a wholesome one. First to mention is, one must have to trust his/her family. that being incredulous doesn't do any good for the wellness of the family. Other thing is, on how to deal with one's self most certainly in times of distress. This may not that easy to handle but the idea of losing the courage for yourself will unerringly complicate all things. That is why, being strong makes you a whole lot better, than you know, is good for you.
Every problem has a solution, and killing yourself is not the right solution. Fredo is a religious person because he was raised by religious family, but how come he wasn't able to apply the values taught in church to his life? It's because of the little attention given by the parents. Sometimes kahit na gaano pa ka close ang miyembro ng isang pamilya, kung nasasakal ka na talaga, you really want to give up. Parents must give TIME to their children, talk to them and accept them of who they are. You can't force them to change and adopt the kind of person you want them to be because they have the freedom to choose what gender they like there must be respect., and acceptance. Love spells T-I-M-E, if parents have enough time to their children they'll be guided with their decision, and help them solve their problems. In the first place, Fredo's mother already sensed that her son is different, but still she wasn't able to ask him about it.Fredo is doubtful to show his real identity because of his family's background and being a gay is a big NO to their religion. Life is like that, people feel depressed if you push them to do something which they never like.
Upon reading the short story comprehensively, the story objectively shown the characters, setting, and theme of the story accordingly. The story try to impart to us in how important to be honest or true to ourselves and be open to our feelings especially towards our family. We must learn to share our own dilemma in life just to lessen burden. Because, it is one way to have a harmonious way of living. On the other hand, what happened to Fredo is not plausible enough just to commit suicide because, his problem is very rampant in our society but still they are accepted even their family because, to show what you are is the best key for the real happiness but still, we cannot blame Fredo on doing that. I think the solution for it is to be candid and everyone deserve it in the right manner. Even though, it has an impact in our life but for sure at the end acceptance will prevail.
The story is based on a real life situation, the setting, the characters are are simply show how modern our society is.The story is simply focused how the third sex gender people suffer such pain.In the story,Fredo belong to a family who have high moral value,it shows their that his family against in the third sex people though it is not really elaborated their thoroughly but the few lines of what his father said is a valid proof that they are against to it.And the situation drag Fredo to make such thing. He can't bare to see the despoilment by his Family toward on him.The protagonist is suffering from internal pain ''man against himself'' it is because he trust no one,he told no one in his situation. He never trust his family, yes it is true that he loved them but not trust, but still in the end whatever we say about fredo's situation and to those who had the same case on him. They are still deserved some respect, love, and understanding. These kind of people also had a heart, they'll know how pain is.They deserved fair treatment not discrimination because in the end still they are part of our society and also they don't wanted to be like that but GOD gave that situation to them because HE knew that they can carry it,that in HIS eyes WE are all treated EQUAL.
Judgment of the society through discrimination can ruins ones innocent life.
God gave us life for us to be treated equal not on how we treated someone unfairly.
The story contains all the elements that a short story should have. The story was told by a first person, where one of the characters is the one who told the story. One of the themes that can be visualize in the story is, one should be sensitive enough to see what bothers by a person. Man vs. Himself, is the conflict of the story, because the main character was fighting to himself if he will going to tell what bothers him or not, and his fighting with his own problem. Telling jokes in a wrong event will going to make a big problem and hurt a persons feeling even if its not intentionally, so one should understand the situation before telling a word. Showing care and understanding to a very important person will make that person comfortable to share his/her problem. When you feel something is wrong or something is bothering to that person, don't let that person walk away without telling what is wrong. Everyday we always facing a problem, and to think of a solution, opinions of other people will always matter, but we should think does it really matter of what people think if we will going to follow what we believe is right for us?. Think again, its not life their life, it is your life, they may give opinion but its still up to you what you think is right.
The short story "Ang mga Pangarap ni Fredo" shows the objective concept that every short story represent;the characters, the settings, the plots, the conflicts, and the themes. Each characters of the story have a description, the setting is already vivid, the plot is well arranged, the conflict of the story is obvious, and lastly the theme is peculiar. In reading the story you can get moral values like, have respect to our parents, being involve in religious affair, to have open relationship to our parents so that we can talk to them about the predicament that we encountered, and especially to have trust to our own family or into ourselves. The most important aspect of the story is the parents must give time to listen or be open to their children so that they wont be on the wrong path of life. And of course the parents must accept the reality about their children no matter what before its too late.
I thought it was boring to read about this story but when I started to read it I don’t know what this feeling coming inside me that making my eyes teary though I was still far from the middle of the story. About the story, this was naturally based not on the Philippine stories since it doesn’t end up a happy ending but most of its part and setting was based on it. We could notice that the family has this strong faith in God or in tagalog being Maka-Diyos. And another thing that we could base it from the Philippine setting is that of the value we could get from it... It doesn't say that God doesn't love gays but it's just that they need more supervision from the people surrounds them. Gays are God's way of insuring that the truly gifted people are not from those who are wearing glasses, not from those teaching us what is right but to people like gays and lesbians. They were the most gifted people because they stand through the test of discrimination. The story of Fredo was actually happening to almost all walks of life though it doesn’t end up like this and though the person involved from it was not gay still the pressure of having a family that are expecting a lot from you are common in them. I can’t blame Fredo if death was his choice to end his problem but as part of a religious family, he should think first that in every challenge God given, we should believe that God did not give this to us without a solution and if you think death is a better solution for this – it is NOT!..God did not give trials that He knows we could not handle. But of course, this was not only his fault but his family also lacks attention to him and that if you were a parent you should not give first your own opinion without hearing the side of your son. You even not hear what he wants to tell but you had already said what your opinion is. It is really true that the person you saw first was the last person that will know who you really are. No matter how close your family is there’s still part of you, you can’t admit to them. Let this question be in our mind, if time and space are curved, where do all of the straight people come from?
when i read the story, objectively speaking, the story is same as with the usual story that I've read, it consists of a characters, setting, and a theme. The story implies about the attitude of an individual that he/she have to possess so that the family will not ruin and of course one of that is being honest to the family because as i know, a family are the only person that would actually accept the real you. There's no sense of not telling the truth if you know you can't handle it,killing is not the solution to the problem its a matter of how you handle the situation and solve it. If you started it, rest assured you know also how to handle it until the end.

Life here on earth encompasses manifold predicaments. Living in this contemporary world, we must be strong enough to undertake difficulties that we may encounter in our journey. We must think that in every problem there's a corresponding solution, but we cannot abnegate the fact that many are descended into suicide because of too much depression or doing things which are strictly prohibited by law like creating turmoils.
One evident of this is the issue of having a third sex which is scarcely accepted by the laws of church. Sometimes, one cannot express the reality of what he is. Religion may hinder and control such one's desire or may be a family principle.
One way of unraveling such is by being open minded, plus the value of respect can be a great help. Human as we are, we all have our weaknesses and that we must respect each weaknesses. another is that, we must have the courage to express who we really are, not just remain silent in the nook, despite the negative feed backs because it is also our right.
In addition, it is the responsibility of the parents to really guide their child and monitor every problem that their child might face.
However, we are also given the freedom to choose the kind of life we desire, but we must be intelligent enough and practical enough to make rightful decisions in life.

In this world we're living, we never know, who are who by just looking at their physicality, a total getting to know is required to deeply understand a certain personality.
Human as we are, we always think and judge people basing on the things that we see in our naked eye, but sometimes what we see is not exactly the thing that's within. Many of us convict people, specially those who belonged to what we call as "third sex". Being in this situation is really a big challenge that one may face, criticisms, pranks, and disrespect will always follow upon admitting this certain status. Why?, because, a lot of people don't really understand their feelings, that's why most people treated them unfairly, no wonder why most end up as suicidal victims because of too fear that they might become the subject of everyone's gossips.
Since this incident can't be avoided, people, specially the parents, should open their minds in understanding every individuals differences, parents should not confiscate the freedom of every individual to show who they really are, and of course for those who are in this bewilderment they should seek God's help and let him lead their way to its rightful path, they must learn to trust him for he knows the way. After doing such, they should let everybody know what they feel and show to them that they are also humans worth to be respected, be who you wanted to be, but don't forget to preserve your dignity.
Everyone deserves to be happy, no matter what kind of gender he/she belongs, all we have to do is to understand, respect, and accept them as what they really are, never judge them through coz' we might hinder their grow and worst, might ruin and cut their lives short. God is there not to convict every individuals dissimilarities, but he's there to give equal treatment for all of us, without any gender considerations.

Life is not life at all if it is not fulfilled, and we all have different ways of doing it. No man ever wishes to be discriminated, and no man has the right to judge the other. The society is normally full of judgments, but life must always go on. Fredo must not have committed suicide despite his fears and frustrations because life is only given once, and it's up to us how to fullfil it. After all, it doesn't matter how we are judged and unaccepted by others. What matters most is how we face the situation and how we accept and handle our selves. "Ang Mga Pangarap ni Fredo" somehow depicts a society bound with judgments and hypocrisy, where people hide their true colors just to be accepted which is not right. Only few people ever realize that.
What is out purpose to live if it is not done with a cause?
The story was very interesting; it portrayed an act where a family tradition was expressed.
I can sense two conflicts in the story. First was the internal where Fredo struggles within his self. He had to make decision to overcome pain, quiet his temper, resist an urge or just to decide to give up and go with the flow of his problem. Second, the external was when still Fredo was the one who experienced it. He was struggling with a force coming from his family; resulting where he had been right now.
Complications started when Fredo acted weird during his birthday. I just cant imagine and this lead me to think an exaggeration of the story. Did family tradition really affects who we are and what we really want to be in our life? We are in our great sorrow to realize that one has to sacrifice his life just to make his family accepts who he was. In fact to consider, we are in a new generation where gays are accepted in the society. And with his guide, there's nothing wrong with serving God; besides his status does not affect his purpose of coming to church. I believe, he gave his love and heart both to God and to his beloved family.
Anyway, the story really inspired many especially to the parents. It gives an awareness that family should be open to any circumstances of each and every member. And it does not mean that because of your family standards, you ought-to-follow what is to be followed when in reality it is not what makes you happy. Life is not about living, it is about how you give meaning to your life when you still live. I also experienced that already where I think I cant get out of my shell, but with faith to God, you really can be what you wanted to be. Everything is not really easy especially in accepting hard things but with time, it really can heal and accept everything. Life is short; you should live it wise.
The story is so unique, in which we can relate it to a real life situation. The story brings out the modernistic of our society now a days. Creating a relationship between the same sex before was not acceptable but as the days goes by it is now acceptable. In the story “Ang mga Pangarap ni Fredo”, Fredo is the main character in the story, we can feel how much pain he has to tell by his parents the situation like that, most especially that he was raised by a religious family. It is really hard, but the most stupid thing that Fredo did was he let his self drown by his problem. We all know that every problem has its solution and killing was never been the best solution.Inu.unahan lang siguro siya ng kanyang takot na baka ineglect siya ng kanyang pamilya at ikakahiya kaya nagawa nya ang pagsuicide but he should have tried to tell to his parents about it maybe at first it would be hard for them to accept the fact that their son was like that, pero lilipas rin yan. We all know that acceptance would prevail sooner. Just a little time of acceptance and everything will be accepted.

The story portrayed the vital roles of each member of the family that must be performed well. In the story each member do their part, but sad to say their is one thing that the mother was neglected; to supervise her children, and due to that negligence she lost her youngest son. In the story we will learn that strong family ties is very important within the family. Everyone should be open-minded. Each of the member should accept each others weaknesses and flaws.
The story shows a rampant and a true story. It is an undeniable fact that an individual that feels the same way as Fredo does, would have a second thought on how he would tell or deliver such to his family about what he really feels inside. Yes! It would really lead to a great confusion on the part when he really have to say something that deals on a serious and someone in the family would answer that has a different meaning or let me say "in a humorous way", and really it would lead to confusion instead of ACCEPTANCE as what he is expecting for them to do.
On the other hand, as I can see and comprehend the story, Fredo is so weak.. That's why he commits suicide. Not minding that he belongs to a religious family.
Generally, he would have to have an open mind, acceptance and he should face the truth because without these things, an individual would do as what Fredo does .. SUICIDE .. but to tell you.. "SUICIDE is the satisfaction of the weak people".
You know what~s wrong with the world? Hate. Hate and discrimination. Family, church and even society there coming to protest because of its reference homosexuality. yet, many christian claim that is was morally wrong.Upon reading the story comprehensively i could say that Fredo is in psychological trauma in his lives emotionally. He is suffering internal pain that leads him to hang himself.
The story simply tells us how people belonging to the so-called "third sex" are struggling each day to survive in this ever-judgmental world. Some of them are courageous enough not to fake themselves and went out of their shells but there are also some who keeps on hiding in a blanket of lies and deception. Those who aren't brave to reveal their true self are placed in a world of sadness, depression, confusion, and pretension. In the story, the character of Fredo/ Wilfredo represents those who can not show their real identity. Culture, religion, society and family pushed them to hide with FEAR. Fear that eventually eats their souls and kills them little by little. The freedom to express their real self is denied because of the morals of the society and religion dictates and surrounds them; and amidst all of these, a burdened soul may wrongly think that to be able to escape from it is by ending its very LIFE. The setting of the story is the society where Fredo grew; a society so blind and selfish and would only allow you to act what it dictates; a society that is judgmental and deprives your freedom. What happened to Fredo in the story is just an example of the worst things that could happen to people who can not find the ACCEPTANCE of who the person they really are.It is also helpful to note that the family where Fredo grew was so involved to their church; a Christian family that served God with all their hearts but unconsciously forgot to notice the suffering Fredo has within him. That is why his mother felt the guilt and responsibility on how Fredo ended. The lesson is, being a gay or a lesbian does not and will never affect on how you are as a Christian or a human. The society and the church must understand that a person can never be judged by its gender; that a person may even serve them better if he does it without pretensions. Yes, Fredo grew in a very loving family- there is no question about that, but they missed to ACCEPT AND UNDERSTAND him. The moral value that we should never forget in this story is the value of acceptance and understanding. Fredo decided to end his life because he knew that he will not receive those from his family. Can we blame them to what happened to Fredo? Yes and No. No, because they were also victims; victims who were just born and taught to follow the do's and dont's the society and the church dictates. Yes, because they should have listened to and understood Fredo. It could have been the best gift they would give to him that day anyway.
Every situation happen in our life, whether good or not, have a cause or have not has something purpose and good reason. It might be acceptable in our side or not. The story “Ang mga pangarap ni Fredo” show and reflect of a hindrance or maybe a terrible problem that may reflect and show about Christianity. In the story, Fredo afraid to show his identity that he is a third shift because of the doctrine of the church and he is afraid also because of his family background (Pastor and Women’s Ministry Leader) that may be his family will be ashamed if they will know it and also people may judge him of who he is. It is an advocacy to those who are third shifts to the church that they are still part of the so called Christianity. We are not authorized to say something regarding with this issue because we are not perfect. Still, we have this so called doctrine that will guide us and correct us. Doctrine made for sinners and to those who will commit sin, not sinners made for doctrine. The story has lot of moral values that we can get and learn. “Responsible” for parents to monitor and guide thoroughly their children. It needs proper guidance. It does not mean that if you guide them perfectly there is no hole. Motivation and be friend with your children is the key. Another value is being responsible (yourself). If you know your standing makes some efforts. Don’t lose hope. In the story, even though there is immorality (suicidal) still it is a sin. It is an awakening for all of us not just the church.

The story simply tells us how people belonging to the so-called "third sex" are struggling each day to survive in this ever-judgmental world. Some of them are courageous enough not to fake themselves and went out of their shells but there are also some who keeps on hiding in a blanket of lies and deception. Those who aren't brave to show their true self are placed in a world of sadness, depression, confusion, and pretension. In the story, the character of Fredo/ Wilfredo represents those who can not show their real identity. Culture, religion, society, and family pushed them to hide with FEAR. What happened to Fredo in the story is just an example of the worst things that could happen to people who can not find ACCEPTANCE of who the person they really are. It is also helpful to note that family where Fredo grew was so involved to their church; a Christian family that served God with all their hearts that they unconsciously forgot to notice the suffering Fredo has within him. That is why his mother felt the guilt and responsibility on how Fredo ended. The lesson is, being a gay or a lesbian does not and will never affect on how you are as a Christian and as a human. The society and the church must understand that a person can never be judged by its gender; that a person may even serve them better if he does it without any pretensions. Yes, Fredo grew in a very loving family- there is no question with that, but they missed to ACCEPT AND UNDERSTAND him. The moral value that we should never forget in this story is the value of acceptance and understanding. Fredo decided to end his life because he knew he will not receive those from his family. Can we blame them to what happened to Fredo? Yes and No. No, because they were also victims; victims who were just born and taught to follow the do's and dont's the society and the church dictates. I can sort relate the story. In the sense of giving up... I've once attempted kill myself, but God doesn't want me to die yet, so here I am,, still alive... and i thank Him for what He did.. coz I've realized one thing.. God give us this life, for us to enjoy it in good ways..
So,whatever trials that we're facing,, never put in your mind the word...."GIVING UP"..
Self is the most abominable principle that ever was.Indeed, one's own self is the loathsome and detestable among all other things because it is truly proven that yourself is your best enemy. this is the exact portrayal of this beautiful and spell-bounding story. The whole concept of the story and definitely the central message of it relatively indicates the importance of yourself.Inevitably speaking,in this kind of society we are in,discrimination and deterioration is very common but one should learn how to face the realities of life. We should not let difficulties and trials affect our humanity because there's always a reason and purpose why certain things happen. It's in God's plan. so why should we ruin the life that God has given unto each one of us?.I have second thoughts that Fredo here was just too hasty in his decisions,he might as well try to explain everything about his identity who knows his family may understand the truth? So one should learn to love his/her self in order to feel contented and valuable but evidently this wouldn't be possible without the guidance of the parents and family. I can't blame the family of Fredo for his heinous death because he was given enough love. and i can't also blame Fredo for doing such thing because he was simply a victim of circumstance. However, i love the story because it unveils the holistic point of view of none other than but your self. It's good because of the moral values that one could get and the manifestation of trust and love from the family is the most imperative of all.
Everything happens for a reason but we need to face the fact that the most painful part of being a human is something when you realize that the person whom you love most is the person who has the courage to say goodbye. Letting go of the person you truly love can be the biggest mistakes in our life. The story entitled "Ang mga pangarap ni Fredo" simply talked about the time, acceptance and there's a bit of discrimination. the story talks about reality and probably it based what we have now in presence, this will be serve us as one of our big lesson, we always bear to our mind that we are all created equal not by discriminating each other but accepting whatever we have. We are not perfect but we must know our limitations. Objectively the story was so unfair because the only solution to his problem is not by committing suicide instead he must have the courage to face everything. We must responsible enough to face such obstacle and we make it realize that sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in life. If God allows us to go through life without obstacle, we would not be as strong as what we could have been. Reality hurts!

Life is the earth walk that we need to accomplish, but in our different ways of attaining the zenith of our success, hindrances and uncertainties blocked our paths. This amazing gift that we have is not that short or long enough. Many tiny things complicate our lives, yet, the presence of the persons that we love is somewhat our strength and maybe our weakness. The story indicates that the real measure of what composed our individual identity is not only seen in the things that we used to hide and take for granted, but also in the ideas we built, we try to believed and we used to stand for. Because in life we just don't need reasons, but also faith.
"You will not know the person if you cannot see what is beyond him"... The story was all about a man who is in doubt of himself. Fredo was trying to live a happy life even with deep burden inside. It was not easy to live while keeping secrets especially if you are not able to even share it with your family. Well, i cannot blame Fredo for committing suicide. As we all know, discrimination is a big issue in the society we are living in. It is undeniable that most of the religious people are against on the "third sex". It is hard for them to accept the differences we had because they just believe that the Mighty Creator only created two kind of people -man and woman. But i guess, even if that's the fact, we also don't have the power to judge a person in his/her identity. Being a part of the "third sex" society is not a sin as long as he/she is not committing a crime. It is not their fault to be gay/lesbian. Hmmmmmmmmmmm..well, the essence of the story is about knowing one's self and acceptance of being you -yourself. Time is only limited. We cannot bring it back ones we had it. So, as long as we much have time now, we must accept what is beyond on that person whom who are close to our hearts. Loving them for who they are.

Objectively, the story consists of characters, setting, plot and etc. in which other stories do have.To deeply tackle on the story "Ang mga Pangara ni Fredo",it is a kind of story which has a quiet amazing flow because it portrays the connection between the family and the church in our society. It simply shows what are the parents' responsibility towards their children and the church and as well as the children to their parents and the church too. Moreover the phenomena in the story relatively plays an enigma to the church on how they can able deal every human which has a status like Fredo who is suffering from what we called "gender crisis".Well in fact, the feelings that he had felt was likely unintentional or shall we say it was never his will to feel such emotions like other gay people does.
In additional, the things that I can only say to the story is that every human being has a freewill to become the person who they are fated to become, it is our side to obtain the respect they needed that comes from us. So, Let us NO TO GENDER DISCRIMINATION!!!
The short story,"Ang Pangarap Ni Fredo",contains all the elements that a usual short story must have. The characters, the setting and the theme are can be seen in the short story. Reality bites as what the majority says, and Fredo really felt the pain of reality that discrimination of the homosexual is really existing even in our own family, but if your family truly love each of its member, every member should respect and accept each other. But in the case of Fredo, his family is expecting too much to him and that makes Fredo more eager to separate himself to his family because he thinks that committing suicide will not disappoint his family. Expressing our own needs and wants is really difficult. We think that our action or behavior is not usual to others especially religious people, but then, if we always keep hiding what is really the true us, it may lead to our self depression or worst, we may conclude that the best way to solve our problem is committing suicide.
After the scrutiny I made of this story, the milieu itself tells us the real situation of our society up to this point of time and most intriguingly how religion systematically affects a person's life. Likewise, the sequence of events are vividly presented. Furthermore, a struggle within one's self and struggles against ideas, practice and customs of other people and the society are the conflicts that have been used to make this story more interesting and entertaining. Though this story is short yet there is a moral value that intertwine within the story. Life is so precious need not to be wasted. Truly, we cannot please everybody as a matter of fact, what is really true it hurts but to sacrifice one's self, one's life without taking any risk at all is an act of a coward person.
BASABE, RHOWELYN C.
THE STORY "ANG MGA PANGARAP NI FREDO" CONTAINS IMPORTANT ELEMENTS WHICH MAKES IT AN EFFECTIVE STORY. A STORY THAT WOULD REALLY LET THE READERS CONTINUE TO READ FOR IT'S A STORY THAT HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE.AND WE CAN SEE THAT IN ITS SETTING, ATMOSPHERE, CHARACTERS AND WITH ITS PLOT THAT DIRECTLY STATES THE EVENT.
FIRST ,THE EXPOSITION WHERE THE NARRATOR STARTS HER STORY ON HOW THE PROBLEM ARISES. SECOND, WITH ITS CONFLICT,WHEREIN THE STORY SHOWS TWO KINDS OF CONFLICTS.FIRST, THE CONFLICT ON MAN AGAINST HIMSELF AND THE SECOND THE CONFLICT ON MAN AGAINST NATURE.LETS START WITH THE FIRST ONE, THE MAN AGAINST HIMSELF.THIS CONFLICT ARISES WHEN FREDO DID EVER TOLD NO ONE ABOUT HIS PROBLEM FOR WHAT HE FEELS OVERPOWERED HIM THAN WHAT HE THINKS. AND SECONDLY, THE CONFLICT ON MAN AGAINST NATURE,AND ITS VERY OBVIOUS .BECAUSE ONE REASON OF WHY HE IS AFRAID AND FELT COWARD ON TELLING HIS PROBLEM ITS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A VERY RELIGIOUS FAMILY.AND IF WE SAY RELIGIOUS, ITS A KIND OF FAMILY THAT REALLY BELIEVES ON WHAT GOD OR SUPREME BEING TEACHES THEM. AND ONE OF THOSE BELIEFS IS THE SEXUALITY THAT GOD ONLY MADE THE MAN AND THE WOMAN.
THIRD, WITH ITS COMPLICATION. THE TIME WHEN FREDO IS ABOUT TO TELL HIS FAMILY THAT HE IS A GAY BUT CHOOSES NOT TO, FOR WHEN HE IS ABOUT TO TELL HIS PARENTS AND EVEN HIS BROTHER UNINTENTIONALLY MADE AN OPINION ON WHAT HE IS GOING TO TELL THEM AND UNFORTUNATELY THEY MADE FREDO FELT MORE DEPRESSED.
FOURTH, WITH ITS CLIMAX, WHEN FREDO DECIDED TO SHARE NO ONE BUT ONLY PIECE(S) OF PAPER ON HIS DEPRESSION.
DOWN TO THE SOLUTION HE THOUGHT THAT ONCE HE HAVE DONE IT . HIS FAMILY WILL UNDERSTAND HIM.
THE STORY ONLY PICTURES OUT HOW TIME AND LOVE, WHICH MAJORITY SAY ARE INSEPARABLE, TELL US THAT ONCE THIS TWO IS NOT BEING VALUED, MORE FREDO WILL STILL DO THE SAME. THE STORY TELLS US THAT LOVE ALONE CAN'T LIVE IF YOU DIDN'T GIVE TIME TO LISTEN AND SHARE WHAT'S WITH YOU.
BECAUSE IF WE WILL GOING TO CHANGE THE STORY, IN THE PART WHEN HE IS ABOUT TO TELL HIS PROBLEM AND SUDDENLY HIS FAMILY INTERRUPTED HIM AND SAID OPINIONS WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHAT FREDO IS GOING TO TELL , WOULD FREDO STILL DO THE SAME? TO TAKE SUICIDE IF JUST HIS PARENTS LISTENED FIRST TO WHAT HE IS ABOUT TO SAY THAN MAKING FIRST OPINIONS,THINK? WHAT HAPPENED IN THE STORY IS THAT HIS FAMILY MADE AN HONEST MISTAKE.BUT UNFORTUNATELY THAT TRIGGERED FREDO TO CONTROL HIMSELF FROM TELLING HIS PROBLEM.BUT WE CANT SAY THAT FREDO HAVEN'T DONE WRONG TOO. THE THING THAT MADE HIM WRONG WAS THAT WHEN HE LET WHAT HE FEELS OVERPOWERED WHAT HE THINKS.AND BECAUSE FEELINGS OVERPOWERED THE THINKING HE THEN BECAME SO DEPRESSED AND TOOK SUICIDE.
ITS NOT EAST OT CONTROL YOUR FEELINGS. THERE ARE TIMES THAT YOU CAN MAKE BAD DECISIONS BECAUSE YOU LET YOUR FEELINGS OVERPOWERED YOU AND THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED OT FREDO.
Delfino, Jerah Jane O.
The story itself reflects on what is happening in our society nowadays. Fredo as a victim of a SELF PITY crime as they say is just one of those who terminates their lives just to free their selves from shame. Being a son of a Godly family, Fredo might think that being one of those in third sex gender is a crime. But for me, being gay is not a crime. The world may be very judgmental but who cares? It's just a matter of acceptance. We are living in a democratic country so we have the reason to live our lives as much as we wanted to be. What makes Fredo's decision wrong is that, he did not give himself freedom to inform his family about his gender, he let his feelings overpowered his mind which is very unjustifiable. Maybe if he only tell his parents about it, they will accept him for what he is. There are no good parents who will abandon their own child because of being gay. It may be hard to accept that he is not a real man but they have to. Reality bites!!
1. Setting/Atmosphere
The story took place in Fredo's house during his birthday. The mood created in the story was grief.
2. Plot
The author began his story with a statement about people who fear to be judged by the society. Next to that was a number of rhetorical questions about responsibility as Christians, acceptance, and rejection.
The author used literary devices such as flashback and foreshadowing. Flashback since there were interjected events that took the narrative back in time from the current point. Foreshadowing, in the sense that, hint was given to allow the readers to predict that someone was going to die in the story.
The conflict of the story can be “man against himself” or “man against society”. Man against himself because Fredo struggled with himself. He had inner conflict with himself. Man against society because he was also struggling with the judgmental society he was in.
The story ende with the realization of Fredo's parents about their shortcomings. His mother swore to find the answers to Fredos questions and she promised not to let that same incident happen to the rest of her children.
3. Characters
The persons involved in the story are Fredo (the leading character), Jason (Fredo's brother), and their parents.
Fredo committed suicide. He was weak. He was so scared to be judged by the people around him.
4. Point of View
The story is told by one of the characters in the story who interact closely with the other characters. This character is the mother of Fredo. The reader sees the story through this person's eyes as she experiences it. This is called “First Person point of view”.
5. Theme
The central message of the story is “acceptance of homosexuality”. The writer tries to convey that homosexual individuals should be accepted and be understood. Humans as they are, they do have shortcomings and imperfections but that doesn't mean, they don't deserve to be respected. The reason why they are scared to show who they really are is that because people give them reasons to be scared. People are narrow-minded. As a result, these homosexual individuals are confined in the world of fear, hiding their true colors.
I do hope that this story of Fredo will open the minds and hearts of people which will lead to a better and more united society.
Characters:
Wilfred, Jason, Mother of Wilfred
Settings:
The short story has a single-setting, in Wilfred's home. From the very beginning until its end, the gloominess of its atmosphere is there.
Conflict:
Its main conflict is "man vs. society" that leads to "man vs. himself". If only he perceives that society could accept him for who he is, he won't hide from his real personality and even committing suicide can be prevented.
It makes use of some literary devices like flashback and foreshadowing.
Point of View
It uses the first person point of view. I would agree with the author's choice because while reading I felt that I am Wilfred's mother and I could feel the pains she had.
Theme
The story engraves equality and acceptance. Being part of the third gender is somewhat complicated in this judgmental society. People considered them as a curse for god made a man and a woman only. But taking a glimpse to reality, why can people not accept them and treat them the way they deserved to be treated? They are also human and they need to express who they really are. They are not worthed to be cursed because it is not their fault why they differ from the norms and we do not have any rights to accuse them from being different instead we have to understand and accept them. We are all sinners that needs to be forgiven and condemning them will not alter everything.
We have to be real. We live not to impress people for who we not supposed to be but to express ourselves for who we are.
The story happens at the house of the narrator. The author opens his story with a very striking line that really catches the readers’ interest. He then started the narration of the story. He first introduced the characters and the setting. Then he presents the conflict of the story which makes the events complicated. The highest point of interest or the turning point of the story comes next. This time, the readers wonder what will happen next; will the conflict be resolved or not? By then, the author reveals the answer; it was not resolved because of the flaw of the protagonist. And so, he gives the final outcome and untangled the events in the story. It ends with a phase that gives the answer to the question that the author has presented and developed.
The characters involved in the story are as follows: Wilfred a.k.a Fredo, the protagonist, the youngest son of the family; Jason, the older brother of Fredo, a loving and caring brother; Father, the narrator; and Mother.
In the story, it is the Father who tells the story; he serves as the index of the action as far as the reader is concern. The point of view, which is also known as narrative technique, in the story is first person point of view. The reader sees the story through this person’s eyes as he experiences it and only knows what he knows and feel.
The author’s statement of purpose is understanding and acceptance. For understanding is the first step to acceptance and only with acceptance can there be recovery.
"It matters not what a person is born, but who they choose to be."
Life is the best gift for us from God besides we are free to choose the right path of way. Failures and success are part of living and since the wheel of fate is still rotating we can never judge the weigh of life since we don't have the reference for security.
The story itself reminds us how important life is as well as our ways and procedures to its extent. Also the family bonding's, the value of individuality, and purely acceptance including fear as well as lack of self confidence to face the reality.
The characters are The persons involved in the story: Fredo the leading character), Jason (Fredo's brother), and their parents. The story takes place in Fredo,s house during his birthday and the mood of the story is grief.
The story begins with emblem as a human nature.Society itself can hardly understand its individual aspect and behavior as well as its real image. The author used flashback as a literary device so that the readers must have the point of interest. As a point of view the author use First Person point of view. The voice of the story is being narrated by mother of Fredo.
The theme of the story is " Acceptance" pure acceptance of individuality. No matter who we are and what we are as long as we are doing good things ,and love can still sustain nothing more nothing less.
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” “The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it's all that matters.”
― Audrey Hepburn
The story, "Ang Mga Pangarap Ni Fredo" depicts a present situation in the society. It gives ideas to people to be open-minded and treat individuals in the "third-sex society" with respect. Males and females fight each other over who is stronger. They are the fortunate ones for they belong to two accepted genders but for transsexuals adjusting to the norms of restrictive societies it may not be easy as they are not considered a part of the social fabric in many cultures of the world. Fredo, in the story faces a very hard situation in which he struggles within himself the fear to be discriminated by his family and by the society.
Objectively, here is the analysis.
1. CHARACTERS
Fredo- the main character in the story. He can be described as weak and negative thinker. He denied the possibilities that his family can accept him wholeheartedly and he ended up committing suicide.
Jason- Fredo's brother
Parents
2.Setting/Atmosphere
At Fredo's home during his birthday. The mood created in the end of the story is regretful and grief.
3.Point of view
Story was narrated in the 'first person point of view. It could be his mother or someone who is close to their family.
4. Plot
The author begun the story with statements about acceptance and rejections. The complication rises up when Fredo tried to confess to his family about his sexuality but was stopped by his fear.
The Cinflict in the story is " Man vs. himself" and "Man vs Society. Man against man in the sense that Fredo was having a conflict within himself. he strrugles within himself the fear to be judged, the fear to tell the reality and the fear to be discriminated not only by his family but also by the society.
Man against society for he was also struggling with the judgemental society he was in. The story ends with his parents realization about their shortcomings to fredo. If only they were able to watch fredo and knew him truely , he might have lived his life fully and happily.
5. Theme
The theme depicted in the story is Social acceptance of transsexuals. Individuals in the third sex have the same rights with the 2 accepted genders. They must be treated fairly and respectfully.
The author tried to aware the society about the struggles of the these individuals not just socially but also their internal struggles encountered.
I hope society can mirror to this story and they will be open-minded to accept transsexuals fairly.

The story had only one setting. It happened at Fredo's house.

The story had two conflicts;"man vs. society" and "man vs.himself". It was very hard for Fredo to tell about his true color because of his religious principle. He was afraid that the people around him would condemn him.And this was the reason why he committed suicide.
THEME:
The central message of the story is all about acceptance. It is very hard to please everybody in this judgmental world. It is so very hard for those people who belong in third gender to express their true colors and be accepted by the society. Setting/ Atmosphere:
The setting of the story was took place in the house of Fredo during his 19th birthday and the mood created in the story was dark or sorrow.
Plot:
The narrator began the story by stating how honest we are as a Christian. Do we open our mind and heart to someone who are in needs or do we reject and discriminate them. The problem arises when the main character did not express his feelings because he scared to disappoint his family so he kept it as a secret to himself and wrote it on a diary. And it ends up with grief when the main character committing suicide.
The conflict of the story was “man against man” and man against society”. Man against man, it’s when Fredo didn’t tell or express his feelings toward his family to the point that committing suicide as the answer of his problem comes up in his mind and man against society, when he was afraid to show his real identity to his family because he don’t like to disappoint them.
Characters:
The persons involved in the story are Fredo- the main character, Jayson- brother of Fredo and his parents.
Point of View or P.O.V:
The person who narrates the story was Fredo’s mother.
Theme:
The central message of the story was the acceptance of different gender. We should not discriminate them or the homosexual person because they don’t intend to be one that’s why we should respect them. And we should always open our heart and mind to accept what their gender is.
The characters involved in the story are:Wilfred “Fredo”, main character;Jason, Fredo’s brother;the parents of Fredo.the story was told by his mother.
It was the ninth birthday of Fredo. He was sad and sorrowful though his family tried to ease the sadness on his face by giving him gifts. On the table, he wanted to reveal his real identity. The conflict is that he has a religion-oriented family and Fredo was already thinking on how they will react. As he tempted to tell them, they cracked a joke exactly about his real color. So, he refused and went to bed exhausted. After that day, he was hanging dead on his room. They were terribly in pain and full of regrets when they have read his diary given by his brother on his birthday.
A family is important. They will still understand and accept us no matter who we are. We should not be afraid to share our difficulties or what so ever because they must be the first to know it. But hypocrite is the person who doesn’t fear of what other people will say especially if we are in Fredo’s shoes. In the real world people are judgemental. Therefore it is better to disclose weaknesses first with your family because they are the immediate foundation we can ever have.
It has something to do with the character’s own flaws. Fredo was a discreet son. If he did not feared to tell them, maybe his family will accept him as he is. He was just being weak though he had a full support from his family.
(Cosep, J)
Most stories I’ve read stressed morals that are useful in human’s daily life and I bet this story is one of those. The story presents not only lessons, but…it also gave us insights on true happenings or shall us a say, the realities of life that people must think of and accept. Upon reading, I felt pity and it made me realize that this kind of scenario exists nowadays. There are people who are trying to hide their identity just for the sake of everybody.
The story happened in the house of the protagonist and sadness was the mood presented in the intro. It was about a man who battles with himself and the society were he is in. Tied with the principle of his family and as a Christian, he finds it hard to tell and express his true identity. Because of it, he committed suicide for he thinks that the only way to express his true color is death. The characters are Fredo, who is the protagonist, Jayson, his brother and their parents.
The theme embodied in the story is acceptance. It’s pretty obvious that some of us had a hard time expressing and displaying things that we want for the fact that we are living in a very judgmental society. Some are carried and tied by those shallow and unreasonable principles.
As humans, it is necessary for us to choose things and stand for our own and also, understand and accept things. Acceptance is the only thing that gays and lesbians want. In order to accept them, we must need to understand their situation first. All they need is care and understanding. Accepting them whole heartedly is the best thing we can offer to them. They must be given a chance to express and taste the freedom they want. Allow them to live with their desires and enjoy. Never mind those flaws and physical appearance because what matters most is the ATTITUDE and not the looks.
(This story may help enlighten people who are against of third sex gender… )
Francisco, Mae Marie
The setting of the story took place in Fredo’s house. The story talks about homosexuality of a person. Fredo badly felt the rejection of society against him, that’s why he came up with a wrong decision, through suicidal. It was a story of painful regrets.
The story starts with the narration of the author about a man who had a secret and hiding his true identity. The literary device that being used in this story is flashback. At the beginning we can easily noticed the 2nd paragraph stated the past event of their life. When Fredo’s mother talks about the diary which serves as the suicidal note of Fredo. Fredo’s mother was obviously the author of the story.
Man against himself could be the conflict of the story. Fredo struggled with himself, he feel ashamed to the people around him especially to his family. He couldn’t express himself, to show who really he is. He’s afraid to be rejected.
The characters of this story are: Fredo (The main character), Jason (Fredo’s brother) and their parents.
During Fredo’s birthday, his family noticed his strange act that makes his family confused.
The story ended when his parents realized the problem of their son after reading the note of Fredo. They were emotional of the note of Fredo because it contains the reason why he came up with suicidal and his dreams for his family. He was able to say thank you to his family. It was really a touching story that happens in real situation.
The central message of the story is Acceptance of homosexuality. He wants to bear in our minds that each of us was equally created by God. All of us deserve to be respected.
thought it was so tiring to read because its language is Filipino, however, it has put some points in my empty bin. the story is very predictable even the dialogues but as well as the characterization of the characters that someone is going to die at the end of the story. it could be read in some tabloids and newspapers. on the other hand, its quite
admirable that the writer itself writes the story not only for the readers but as well for thyself. what i mean is the mimetic theory, the copy of an idea from an experience, maybe deconstructed or not. the characters did not really portray that much in the story as if they were just some kind of spices. i even get confused to who really tell the story, is it omniscient, third person or person?, but im sure it has provided the readers some good moral effects...that suicide is not a remedy to free oneself from being chained. it is, however, the stupidest perception of a human being to do. and to parents out there, it is a must not to put your guard down with your children, take a step and give them your fiercest grip.
P.S. watch out with those misplaced and forgotten punctuation marks. readers might think it's part of the narration not with the dialogues.
Guevarra, Johanna Fe N. AB English 3-1
I always thought that life is what I planned, that it is what I wanted and it is always what I choose then suddenly it all went wrong. I just realized that I forgot to what other feels in every decision that I made, that they were hurt every time I utter a words. Sometimes, I think that it is better for me not to say anything than to hurt other people. Just like what Wilfred’s fate.
I pitied Wilfred’s destiny, the main character of the story. He preferred not to say anything than to upset his family. We can say that his reason was so lame but, let’s face it, it’s true. He had to commit suicide just to have a freedom but for me, committing suicide is not a reason to let go.
Theme. Sometimes expressing your self is never an easy thing. You have to consider others mind-set to avoid a silent war, relationship negligence and so on.
Setting. It’s depressing to know that it had to happen in their house where all the happiness, laughter, tears, the positive and negative energy were there. Accomplishments that only family can give and a home that others can’t offer.

great deal of opportunities for this. This method is considered one of the fastest
ways to get your blog indexed by Yahoo.
